Commissioning

It's official! This morning in the sanctuary service at Highland Park UMC, I was commissioned as a missionary to Costa Rica. It was amazing to see so many people supporting the Costa Rica mission project. I feel like I have been embraced by the entire congregation and I know that you all are praying constantly for me and the work I will be doing. I pray for YOU everyday- that you will come to know and love the people of Costa Rica as I do, that you will consider going on or supporting mission trips, and that your hearts will be touched by the projects already underway and coming up in the future. There are so many ways to get involved. We need you! Thank you so much for all that you do and will do for the church, locally and globally.

Can you hear me now?

If you have ever travelled outside of the country, you know that communication is very important. Everyone wants to know where you are and that you are safe. You would think that in 2009 cell phones and internet access would be available anywhere you go. They are, but they come at a price. A very high price. In order for me to use my cell phone in Costa Rica, I would have to pay over $100 just for the opportunity to use the phone. Then, the usage costs $2 per minute. That is just plain ridiculous! Why can't we figure out how to use cell phones in other countries for less money? I have been running into the same problems with internet access. There are limited options available and the ones that are there are expensive. My plan is to travel around the country bumming wifi off of everyone else's networks. It's the only way to go on a missionary budget!

So, goodbye iPhone. So long to having the world at my fingertips...literally.

Organization

Moving out of my house that I have lived in for 2 1/2 years was difficult to say the least! I am generally a very organized person. Those closest to me know I have a list for everything and am usually on top of things. I NEVER lose things! These past few months have been a complete exception to the norm. I am a mess! Things are everywhere and I can't find anything.

Here is how my belongings are organized at the moment.

Note the attempt to make things orderly and accessible (the stackable bins that are meticulously labeled). Yeah, I don't know what happened.

By the end of the week, things will be in order. Now that I am not working, I finally have time to get myself organizedand prepared for the next big move. Which, by the way, will happen on May 8. Let the countdown begin...

This is all thanks to my amazing parents who allow me to set up storage camp in their house. They have been such a huge help in this transition time and none of this would be possible without them!
